In the Clermont Sun of Jun 21 1855: "Died June 8th, 1855, in Lee County, Iowa, Edmund Hitch, in the 49th year of his age. He was a native of Kentucky and emigrated with his father, T. Hitch, Sr. and settled in Monroe Township, Clermont County, Ohio in 1814, where he resided until '51, when he removed to Iowa. He is the first that have died of a family of eight children, the oldest is now 61 and the youngest 44 years old. The father is still living in his 83rd year. He has left a wife and three children with many friends in Ohio and Iowa to mourn their loss."
