Edmond Smullen first shows in the Somerset Tax Lists in 1746 in the household of his brother William so he probably had turned age 15 shortly before then. He is listed in every extant Somerset Tax List (ending in 1759) so he remained in that county through that time. But, he had land surveyed for him on Oct 1 1761 called "Smullens Content" for 111a - this land is on the east side of the main branch of Dividing Creek, in Worcester County. In 1773, he still seems to be "of Somerset", however, so his domicile probably remained on the Somerset side of the county line.

On Nov 18 1761, Edmund Smulling of Somerset Co sold to Thomas Barnes of Worcester Co., for 50 pounds, land in Somerset part of "Goshen." Land that Randall Smullen had seized the tract (200a) and left 90.5a to Edmond in his will. This is part of the land he sold. At the same time, he and Nathaniel Smullen sell William Fleming 40.5a, another part of the "Goshen" tract as well (SoLR-C:106). On May 25 1773, Edmond Smullen "of Somerset" purchases 49.75a of land from William Fleming, part of the tract "Unity Enlarged" for 50 pounds (SoLR-F:56). This land surrounds the "Goshen" tract mentioned earlier.

He is listed in 1780 in Capt. James Elzey's Co., Princess Anne Battalion, MD Militia.
