On August 8, 1801, Joshua Hitch was a witness to a deed from Samuel Franks to Thomas Lowers in Laurens County, SC. (Laurens Co., SC Deeds and Wills (DAR), Deed Book G, Folio 268).
On September 26, 1802, John and Joshua Hitch were witnesses to a deed from John Hanna Jr. to Joseph Hanna for land on a branch of the Enoree River, part of a 592-acre 1791 grant to John Hanna. (Laurens Co., SC Deeds and Wills (DAR), Deed Book G, Folio 477)
On May 7, 1804, John and Joshua Hitch were witnesses to a deed from Thomas Murphy to William Murphy for land on Duncans Creek. (Laurens Co., SC Deeds and Wills (DAR), Deed Book H, Folio 33)
On May 25, 1804, Benjamin Byrd gave deed to John Hitch for $45 for 36½ acres on Duncans Creek. Witnesses were William Byrd, Joshua Hitch, Robert Hutchinson JP. (Laurens Co., SC Deeds and Wills (DAR), Deed Book H, Folio 37)
From Marriages and Death Notices from the (SC) City-Gazett and Daily Advertiser for April 1807: "Married on the 19th ult. (April 19, 1807) in Laurens District by Robert Hutchinson, Esq., Mr. Joshua Hitch, to the amiable and accomplished Miss Elizabeth Compton, both of that District." (South Carolina History and Genealogy Magazine, Volume XXX, page 253)
On November 5, 1807, Joshua Hitch was a witness to a deed from Robert Ward, Sheriff, to Archie Mayson for land on Walnut Creek. (Laurens Co., SC Deeds and Wills (DAR), Deed Book H, Folio 255)
From the John Hitch Bible owned (in 1971) by Mrs. Cannie Thackston Woodside of Fountain Inn, SC we find, "Joshua Hitch, son of Louther and Mary Hitch died on February 5, 1808."
From the "Charleston (SC) Time" edition of March 7, 1808, we find the following obituary, "Departed this life on Friday evening, the 5th of February last, Mr. Joshua Hitch, aged about 28 years, a native of Maryland, but a resident of South Carolina for about seven years...left wife and four brothers."
On March 7, 1808, we see that Joshua Hitch's letter of administration was granted to John Hitch. (Laurens Co., SC Deeds and Wills (DAR), Will Book C-1, Folio 298)
On April 13, 1808, Joshua Hitch, deceased's, inventory of estate and sale bill was offered by Benjamin Byrd, Henery Langston, John Hutchinson. Administrator was John Hitch. (Laurens Co., SC Deeds and Wills (DAR), Will Book C-1, Folio 324)
