Capt. Sylvanus Hitch
(1785-1817) |
Capt. Sylvanus Hitch
Daisy Hitch Davies writes in 1931: "One of the sons of Samuel Hitch, probably Sylvanus Hitch, had a wife "Sally" Hitch. She was an aunt to the children of Hardy Elgate Hitch. This Aunt Sally had a daughter Elizabeth who married a Nathaniel Howard. She went to live with him in California about 1854, he already being there. He probably went with the Fairhaven and New Bedford, MA. who went there in 1849. They in turn had two daughters. I was told this by Elizabeth Howard Hitch Thomas, one of the daughters of Hardy Hitch and granddaughter of Hardy Elgate Hitch. Elizabeth Howard Hitch (Thomas) was named for Elizabeth Hitch Howard and was given much care and attention by this older second cousin until she was five years old. After going to California, she continued to bestow gifts of love and remembrance." Sylvanus married Sarah (Sally) Wood, daughter of Zeruiah Wood and Rhoda Eldridge, on 04 Jan 1807 in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA.1 2 (Sarah (Sally) Wood was born in 1789 in MA 3 6 7 and died in 1866 in MA.) |
