Obituary: Joseph M. Turner, 62, Asbury Park's first solicitor in the city manager government, died at his home Saturday after a long illness.
He was a city councilman and president of the board for eight months during 1914 and 1915 and was an unsuccessful candidate in several commission elections in later years. He was also an unsuccessful candidate for assemblyman on the Democratic ticket in 1914.
Mr. Turner was the son of the late Henry C. and Elizabeth Turner. He attended Asbury Park schools, Syracuse university and New York law school. He formed the law firm of Wyckoff, Turner, and Smith, with in later years became Smith and turner. He conducted his practice in Asbury Park.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Kate C. Turner, three daughters, Miss Edith Turner of Trenton; Miss Alice Turner of New York, and Mrs. John C. Pepseli of Rumson; a son, Joseph M. Turner, Jr., of New York, a sister, Mrs. Stuart M. Beard, Sheffield, Massachusetts, and a brother, Henry C. Turner of Trenton.
