On November 18, 1871, S.G.L. Hitch bought land from R. Watson Jackson, William H. Jackson, Elihu E. Jackson, and Wilber F. Jackson for $25. Land is described as on the west side of the county road leading from Hitches Steam Mill to Salisbury adjoining lands of John E. Harris, Horatio Nelson and R.W. Jackson and consisting of ¾ acre. Witness: Joseph C. Bush. (Wicomico County Land Records, Liber TFJR No. 3, Folio 31).
The Dorchester County, Maryland Marriage Records state that Samuel G.L. Hitch, age 31, a physician, married Florence Phelps, age 22, on November 7, 1876 at Eldon by Reverend. Theo. P. Barber.
There is a mention that S.G.L Hitch died at 11 o'clock on Sep 26 1877 from a "collection" of diseases in the Salisbury Advertiser newspaper of Oct 6 1877.
