Samuel D. Hitch, Jr.
Age 83, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away on September 7, 2007 at his home. He retired from Electric Hose and Rubber in Wilmington as a Wire-Winder Inspector after 25 years service. He was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific. Sam was a member of the Polish Library, the Durney Post, and the Umpire Inter State Umpire Association. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Sam is survived by his wife, Annie Hitch; 3 sons, Robert of Seminole, FL, Clifford of San Diego, CA, and Donald of Stanton, DE; 1 daughter, Patricia Toney of Denver, CO; 1 step-son, William S. Campbell of Smyrna; 1 brother, Robert of Claymont, DE; 2 sisters, Thelma Harvey of Wilmington, DE, and Shirley Binsbacher of Indianapolis, IN; 14 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Dougherty, step-daughter, Dolores Prosceno and brother, Harry T. Hitch. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 11 am at Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and Dupont Rd., Wilmington. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
