OBITUARY: Pearl H. Dykes (w/ photo) - Salisbury - Pearl H. Dykes, 84, of here died Wednesday, July 1, 1992, at the Salisbury Nursing Home. She was the daughter of James P. and Amanda Jones Hamilton and was born and lived most of her life in Capeville, Va. Her husband, Milton Dykes, died in 1987. She is survived by two sons, Milton J. Dykes Jr., and Marvin H. Dykes and his wife, Kay, all of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Leslye A. Dykes of Crofton, Md., and Dante R. Winter of Baltimore; a brother, George W. Hamilton of Salisbury; a sister, Doris Hitch of Salisbury; and one niece and two nephews. An active member of Lower Northampton Baptist Church in Capeville, she served as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. Dykes was active in the Home Demonstration Club, as a Cub Scout den mother and was a past president of Pocahontas Improved Order of Red Men at the state level in Virginia. Prior to her retirement in 1973, she worked as a bookkeeper in the office at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel restaurant. Since moving to Salisbury, she has served with the Fruitland Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. James B. Davis, pastor, will officiate and James C. Hitch will assist. (The Daily Times, Friday, 3 July 1992, p. 6)
