Rachel Susan was born a caretaker, and had responsibility for the family at a very young age. She said that she raised her younger brother, Homer. Her education was hit and miss. She would send her brothers and sister to school, while she cleaned house and prepared a lunch to take to them. She was a strong believer in education. Both of her daughters, Sara and Mary, were college graduates, teaching in Blount County. For her wedding to Thomas, Susan decorated the house with apple blosoms. She loves all plants and flowers, and every home she lived in was made lovely with them. Susan was always willing to help anyone who needed her; Family, Friends, or even strangers.

Rachel married Thomas Lamar Nuchols. (Thomas Lamar Nuchols was born on 20 Jun 1875 in Blount Co., TN and died on 19 Jun 1967 in Damascus, Montgomery Co., MD.)
