The Stepney Parish Records indicate that Sarah Hitch, daughter of Elias and Easter (sic) Hitch was born on Jan 2 1793. On Apr 2 1842, for $80, Nelly, Nancy, Levin and his wife Sally, and Sarah Hitch and Betsy Nicholson (widow of John Nicholson) sold to Moses Hastings, all of Somerset County, 21½ acres of land bordering "Hot Hill". Betsy Nicholson signed this record as Elizabeth Nichols. (SoLR-AH:108)
In the Federal Census of 1860, Sarah Hitch is listed in Salisbury, Somerset County, Maryland in the Levin H. Nicilas (Nicholson, Nicholas, Nichols) family (household 1348) as follows: - Levin H. Nicholson, age 41 - Elizabeth Nicholson, age 31 - Charles Nicholson, age 3 - Thomas Nicholson, age 2 - Eugene Nicholson, age 10 months - Elizabeth Hitch, age 67 - Sarah Hitch, age 63 All born in MD.
On Jun 8 1861, Sarah Hitch and Elizabeth Nichols were paid $40 by Noah Hearn for 2 acres of land called "Hitch's Chance" on the west side of the county road leading from Ruark's Mill to Salisbury. (SoLR-LW7:133).
On Feb 2 1869, Sarah Hitch and Elizabeth Nichols (Nicholson) sold land to Humphrey Humphreys for $89. The land adjoined Henrietta Byrd's land and the county road from Ruark's Mills to Salisbury consisting of 10½ acres. Witness: Handy Fooks. (WiLR-TFJR1:448).

1850, 1860, 1870 Federal Census: she is listed as age 55, 63 and 70 in Somerset County and then Wicomico County (1870), Maryland, respectively. She is in the Nicholson family household in each Census. Stepney Parish church records provide Sarah Hitch's exact date of birth.
