bullet  Notes:

*Uncertain of this connection Thomas M. Hitch to James Hitch. Is Thomas M. Hitch = Thomas (of) James Hitch? Maybe - needs more research but there also may be two separate Thomas Hitches - we do know that Thomas James Hitch belongs here, the question is, is he the same as Thomas M. Hitch of other records?

When George Layfield's account was administered by Solomon Layfield on Feb 13 1805, payments were due to Thomas Hitch and Thomas M. Hitch. (SoAA-EB27:10,11) When Peregrine Weatherly's account was made on Feb 3 1803 and proved Oct 6 1803, it mentions a payment to Thomas M. Hitch. (Ibid.:36,37)

Benjamin Lankford, administrator of Thomas M. Hitch brought the inventory of his account forward on Apr 9 1805 and made payments due to John Roberts, William Handy, John Nicholson, Joshua Anderson, Thomas Bayly and Benjamin Lankford and proved on Mar 25 1806. (Ibid.:43) Lankford made a second accounting Oct 8 1806 when he made payments due to Sarah Hitch, Charles Moore, Aaron Mezick, Dr. Thomas J. Winder, James Nicholson (of Chas.) and Mary Hitch. (Ibid.:55) Benjamin Lankford made another accounting of Thomas M. Hitch's estate. His inventory was brought forward on Oct 8 1805 and the account proved Apr 14 1807. Payments were due to George Handy, Thomas Handy and Levin Dashiell. The final account was $178.04. (Ibid.:70)

The final inventory amounted to $134.43 1/3 Distributions were made as follows by Lankford:

To right of wife Nancy = 1/4th part....$30.93 1/3
To sister Suckey's children = 1/4th part....$30.93
To sister Nelly Beauchamp = 1/4th part....$30.93
To sister Betsy Pedue = 1/4th part....$30.93 (Ibid:119) (SoInv-EB26:057,061)

bullet  Notes:

Thomas M. Hitch is mentioned as paid by George Layfiled estate on Feb 13 1805, but his own estate inventory was brought into account from Apr 8 1805. (SoAA-EB27:10,11,43)
