Kenneth Edward Hitch

The following is from a family history sent to me by Stephen J. Hitch of Kent, WA in 1997: "Kenneth Edward Hitch married Patricia Marie Brown December 6, 1969 in Fremont, CA. Pattie was born October 18, 1947 in San Jose, CA. They met at Seattle University and graduated together in 1969. Ken earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Pattie earned a Bachelor,of Arts in Economics. Having taken ROTC, Ken was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Regular Army and was stationed in Frankfurt am Main, West Germany. In 1972 Ken had fulfilled his obligation to the army and looked for a new opportunity closer to the Seattle area. He learned of an opening in Anchorage, AK with the Army Corps of Engineers as a civilian civil engineer and was hired in 1974. The family moved into the yellow house at 1706 Dimond Drive in Anchorage, AK and that is where they live today.

Ken worked in a number of positions for the Army Corps of Engineers, working his way up to become Deputy Chief of Engineering for the Alaska District, a position he holds today. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer and served as President of the Anchorage Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He earned his Masters in Engineering Management at the University of Alaska. Other interests include participation in a summer tennis league and significant involvement for 11 years as pack and troop leaders for the Boy Scouts of America.

Pattie worked in a number of capacities for the Internal Revenue Service breaking new ground in a male dominated federal agency, until her retirement in 1988. She served as the first female manager in the Collection Division for the Alaska District holding the position Chief, Special Procedures Staff. Since retiring she has become a very active volunteer with the Volunteer Corps at Providence Medical Center. She is Financial Manager of the Anchorage Cheechako Chorus, a Chapter of Sweet Adelines International. She is Alumni Admissions Associate for Seattle University in the State of Alaska.

They are both very active in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a Parish they joined when they arrived in Alaska. They are both currently lay Eucharistic Ministers. Ken has spent time on the Parish Council, and he and the boys served on the altar for a number of years. Pattie chaired various activities at the church and they kept their boys involved."
