On April 12, 1791, Thomas Humphris was appointed guardian to Nehemiah Hitch (of Thomas Hitch) who was over age 14. (Somerset County Orphans Court Proceedings, Book 1, Folio 98)

Nehemiah Hitch posthumously showed up in Maryland records when the Federal Assessment of 1798 proclaimed: "Nehemiah Hitch Heirs" was owner of unoccupied property "situated about 3 mi. from Bailey & Fooks Mills near the branch" consisting of one log house under repair, 16' x 18' and 110¼ acres of land. Property was listed in Broad Creek Hundred for Somerset County and assessed $50 for buildings and $40 for the land.

His estate inventory was taken on Jan 9 1797 by Levin Irving and listing nearest of kin as Arthur McGrath and Polly McGrath (SoInv-EB21:393) In the Commissioners of the Tax Received for 1798-1803 Nehemiah Hitch's "heirs" were shown in Broad Creek Hundred of Somerset County and assessed taxes for 110¼a of land, etc. at: $85, $85, $85, $85, $85, $85 for each of those years, respectively. In the Somerset County Commissioner of the Tax Report for 1813, Nehemiah Hitch "Heirs" was listed in the 1st Election District, "heirs" taxed for 74½a of land valued at $140.
