Donald "Duck" Jesse Hopkins Obituary Donald Jesse Hopkins passed away peacefully at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional on May 6, 2025 after a short decline in his health. Don, or "Duck" as he was called by his family, was born September 23, 1934 at Peninsula General Hospital. He was the only child of Sarah Esther & John Irving Hopkins. He attended Upton Elementary school, and graduated from Wicomico High School in 1952. He was a star athlete in school and was honored as the Outstanding Male Athlete. He excelled in baseball and basketball.
After graduation, his early employment was with Harold Porter, selling appliances. He soon moved into the poultry business and began a long career with Perdue, Showell Poultry and later retired from Mountaire Farms. He made lasting friendships with the many farmers across the shore. He held many positions, including Grain Supervisor, Flock Supervisor and Chicken House Building Specialist. Following retirement, he worked with his life-long friend Dean Goslee restoring stained glass windows in churches in Maryland Delaware and Virginia. Following Dean's passing, he worked part-time for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He was an avid sports fan cheering and cussing the Shorebirds and the Orioles. His love for fishing endured to the end.
Don married Barbara Disharoon in 1954. They have been married for over 70 years. He enlisted in the Army and served in Germany. Barbara joined him a year later. He is survived by Barbara, his first child, Mark Steven Hopkins (Kate) from Crofton Md, who was born in Germany in 1957; his daughter Sherry Hopkins Stevenson (Stevie) and his youngest son Scott Michael Hopkins (Molly) all from Salisbury.
Duck's memory will continue to live through his grandchildren Sarah Gillespie (Shane), Justin Ball, Matthew Hopkins, and Elijah (Eli) Wagner, great-grandchildren David James Gillespie, Luke Stephen Gillespie, and Zelie Catherine Gillespie. His sister-in-law Alice Paige Glasgow, and her children, Wade and Jay Glasgow (Caroline). Also surviving are nieces and nephews on the Disharoon side of the family in Maryland, North Carolina and California.
Duck's greatest joy was attending the kids and grandchildren's sports events. Services to honor the life of Duck will be held on Tuesday May 13, 2025 at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 am with a public visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held at Parsons Cemetery 912 N Division St. Salisbury, MD. Donations in memory of him can be sent to Salvation Army 407 Oak Street, Salisbury, Md 21804. Barbara and Duck met and spent many years playing sports at the Salvation Army.
