Col. Pepper Clay GREENVILLE -- The retired Army Col. Pepper Clay, 74, died Wednesday at the University Of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Services were held at 4 pm, Thursday from the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, MS. Military Rites are to be at 3 pm today in Lexington, KY Cemetery with Boone-Wells Funeral Home in charge. Col. Clay leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Martindale Clay of Greenville, MS; two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Boyajian of Tennafly, NJ and Mrs. Susan Hisharoon of Port Gibson; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Sawitzky, New Haven, CT and Mrs. Elizabeth Blanford, Gloster, MA; and six grandchildren. Mr. Clay, a native of Lexington, KY, and a graduate of West Point in 1925, served in field artillery in World War II and the Korean Conflict, retired in 1955 and moved to Greenville to make his home.
