Edward Hitch came from England to Whitewater, Wisconsin in about 1851. The family then moved to Palmyra, Wisconsin sometime in late 1857. From records in the Office of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), "Edward Hitch of Jefferson County, Wisconsin" purchased land from the La Crosse, Wisconsin office on October 30, 1857 (Certificate No. 8822). The land was described as "the South half of the North West quarter of Section three in Township sixteen North of Range one west in the District of Lands subject to sale at La Crosse Wisconsin containing eighty acres." Edward married Fannie Peacock about 1850 in England. (Fannie Peacock was born on 13 Feb 1818 in England,6 7 died on 25 Oct 1890 in Palmyra, Jefferson Co., WI 8 and was buried about 28 Oct 1890 in Zion Cemetery, Jefferson Co., WI.) |
