John Walter White, 97, of Fruitland died peacefully Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born on June 24, 1918, in Fruitland, he was the son of the late Walter Webster White and Bertha May Hitch White. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jane Timmons White, who passed in 2004.

Mr. White began his career working for Trailways and DuPont. He retired from Dresser in 1980. He was a member of the Salisbury Baptist Temple and an Army veteran. He had many interests including: driving the bus, traveling, playing his fiddle and harmonica, singing, and working his beloved team of mules, Dolly and Dan. He lived his life with love for his family and friends, as well as, a willingness to help others. He always put his faith and family first and was throughout his life a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by a son, L. Timmons White of Hebron; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty W. and Charles Ryall of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Jennifer N. Ryall and Charles L. Ryall II of Salisbury and sister, Pauline Hitch White. He will be sadly missed by his family to whom he devoted all of his attention. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 29, 2016 at Salisbury Baptist Temple at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. The pastors Carlo Leto and Oren Perdue will officiate. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens.
