According to my findings in the Census records, it appears that these two folks are one and the same person. Melchisideck was probably called Melvin to make it easier to say. In any case, M.C. Hitch was listed with Clement Hitch in the 1850 Hart Co., Kentucky Census. However, the age difference is great enough where they may be grandfather-grandson rather than father-son. For this reason, M.C. may have been the son of John Hitch (of Clement). Melchisideck married Emily A. Hood on 22 Feb 1853 in Monroe Co., KY.1 (Emily A. Hood was born in 1832 in KY 9 and died in 1863-1869 10.) Melchisideck next married Millie A. Lancaster, daughter of (?) Lancaster and Elizabeth (?), on 12 Jan 1879 in Edmonson Co., KY.2 (Millie A. Lancaster was born in Jan 1855 in Edmonson Co., KY 11 12 13 and died on 14 May 1929 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY 14.)
