Mary Frances Lokey

This compiler originally thought that Mary was d/o John Lokey born 1793 and listed in the Delaware census for 1850 - there is a Mary Loky in that household born c1844 and later references to her children indicate that their mother was born in Delaware. But further research seems to deny that connection as the Samuel Lokey family lived near and around the Smullens in Worcester County through the late 1800s. From court records, we know Mary was not a d/o of Isaac Lokey but could have been d/o of one of Samuel's other sons - either Dingley or John Lokey. She did name one of her sons Isaac Smullen so it could have been named after her father or uncle. However, further evidence points more to the fact that she probably was NOT a daughter of John Lokey (b1812) who was in Sussex Co. by 1860 with no Mary as a daughter. The more likely scenario that she may indeed be a daughter of the John Lokey of Delaware in the 1850 Census who has a daughter Mary of the proper age.

Mary married Elijah Henry Smullen, son of Eli Smullen and Mary W. (Mollie) Dryden, on 27 Dec 1865 in Worcester Co., MD.¹ (Elijah Henry Smullen was born on 05 Oct 1841 in Worcester Co., MD,^{2 7 8 9 10} died on 16 Aug 1908 in Worcester Co., MD ⁶ and was buried about 19 Aug 1908 in Smullen Cemetery, St. Lukes Rd., Worcester Co., MD.)
