On Sep 17 1862, William E. Hitch is listed in the U.S. Adjutant General Enrollment for Worcester County Election District No. 2 list as age 21 a farmer, Forktown P.O.

On March 16, 1874, John A. Hitch bought land from William E. Hitch for $40. Land was described as bordering the road from Bethel Church to Joseph Disharoons Mill, adjoining Union Church and division line between William E. Hitch and James Toadvine's lands. It consisted of 2 acres, part of "Long Acre", "Fooks Cost", and "Fort Neck." Witness: John D. Truitt. (WiLR-SPT1:061).

On October 13, 1878, William E. Hitch sold land to William F. Ellis for $16. It was described as one acre of land on Manners Branch on hill towards the public road. Ellis to have right of way to the road running by Union M.E. Church. Witnesses: William J. Riggen and Samuel Webb. (WiLR-SPT3:198).

In the Federal Census of 1900, William E. Hitch is listed in a household in Nutters District, Wicomico County, Maryland (ED119, sheet 2 (or 8), line 19) as follows: - William E. Hitch, born 11/1838 in MD.

From William E. Hitch's death certificate he is listed as born in Maryland and died on October 15, 1907, age 69. He was a farmer with his father born in Maryland and his wife deceased.

In his will written Apr 15 1907 and probated Oct 29 1907, William E. Hitch left the following: - To Soadie Taylor, wife of Dennis Taylor, land I now reside in Nutters District - To Cora B. Vincent, my wife's things (includes a small Bible). He also made specific mention of the family graveyard on his property: "In case the place is sold, the graveyard to be excepted and retained with a right-of-way to said graveyard." Witnesses: John A. Parker, Frank Watson (WiW-LJG1:219)
