Helen Hitch died on December 5, 1994 after a two-year battle with cancer. In an April 1995 letter, Herman R. Hitch stated that he and his wife had attended an Army reunion in 1992 in Louisville, KY and she wasn't feeling well. This is when she discovered that she had colon cancer.

Helen married Herman R. Hitch, son of Ernest Ray Hitch and Lois Victoria Jewell, in Apr 1942.1 (Herman R. Hitch was born on 13 Mar 1921 in Barren Co., KY 2 3 4 5.)
