Retired Export Manager Lorena Jackson Hitch Dies in Local Hospital Portsmouth- Miss Lorena Jackson Hitch, 88 of 1 Crawford Parkway, a retired esport manager of Virginia Chemicals, Inc., died Monday in a hospital after a long illness. A native of Sussex Country, she was a daughter of George Philip and Mrs. Caroline Fintstchwaite Hitch. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church. She taught in Portsmouth schools for many years and worked briefly on the Atlantic Monthly magazine. She started with Virginia Smelting Co., a predecessor of Virginia Chemicals, in 1920, as secretary to the manager. Miss Hitch continued to promote foreign trade in Hampton Roads after her retirement. She served as secretary of the Hampton Roads Foreign Commerce Club. A charter member of the Business and Professional Woman's club, she also held membership in the Retired Teachers Association. She was one of the founders of cerebral palsy clinic at Maryview Hospital. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Snellings Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family has said that expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Kirk-Cone Rehabilitation Center, Chesapeake.
