bullet  Notes:

Sarah Hitch (Laurens, SC) in a May 9, 1864 letter to Young H.E. Hitch writes, "I reckon you have perhaps heard of the death of Marian Duvall, Susan Hitches husband. He was in the armmy over twelve months and came home on a furlough and took the brain fever and died in a few days. He was a living at his fathers old place. He had put up a small house up on the road near where the old machine stood and susan is a living there this year but I don't know whether she will continue there any longer than this year or not."

As found in the National Archives, F.M. Duvall's service in the Civil War goes as follows:

He enlisted on Jul 1 1862 with Company C of the Holcombe Legion Cavalry of the SC Volunteers (one reference says he enlisted at Camp Hope for one year and another indicates Camp William for "3 years or the war." Muster records show the following:

- Another note in the file states he had "debilities" and admitted to the Hospital in Richmond on Jul 3 1863 and put in Jackson Hospital in Richmond on Aug 10 1863. He was returned to duty on Sep 7 1863.
