She was born in 1900, and was the daughter of Andrew and Rachel Davis Hitch. She lived her whole life in Blount County. She is the last of the 12 children of Andy and Rachel Hitch. She married in December 1919, to John T. Clark and lived her life as a farm wife at Clarks Grove Farm. She was an active member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church since 1920. She was the oldest member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church of several years. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and Rook Club. She was an expert seamstress and an avid gardener. She always loved to share her handiwork with all who came to see her. Preceded in death by: parents, Andrew and Rachel Hitch; 11 brothers and sisters, Ellen Wheeler, Roy Hitch, John Hitch, Raymond Hitch, Mary Hitch, Tom Hitch, Ben Hitch, Paul Hitch, Madge Fleming, Murrel French and Samuel W. Hitch; husband, John T. Clark; two daughters, Margaret Post and Helen Morton. Survivors include: daughter, Bobbie Clark Chiles; three sons-in-law, Bill Post, Vic Morton and Henry Chiles; five grandchildren, Clark Post, David Post, Tom Morton, Ann Chiles Ridley and Lynn Clark Chiles; seven great-grandchildren; and two great, great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999, in the West Chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Leamon and Rev. Raymond Burnett officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999, in the West Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000.
