Mrs. William Kries, 92, formerly of 1107 Madison St., Manitowoc, died late Saturday afternoon at Park Lawn Home. She had fallen and broken her hip one month ago. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, the Rev. Richard P. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Kries was born April 6, 1872 at Wrightstown, Brown County, Elizabeth Stephani, daughter of the late William and Anna Pitsch Stephani. The family moved to Manitowoc about three years after her birth. She attended the old First Ward school at Manitowoc. Her father founded the old German House, later known as the Stephani Hotel, South Eighth Street. She assisted with the operation of the Hotel until her marriage to William Kries May 12, 1896, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Her husband preceded her in death in 1907. Survivors include five daughters Elfae and Thelma of Manitowoc, Mrs. Mildred K. Hitch of Park Hills, Ky., Mrs. E. G. Halvy of Ipswich, England and Mrs. Elizabeth Glaeser of Sturgeon Bay; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Keehn of Jefferson and Mrs. Florence Reynolds of Madison; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
