John Hitch was a Private in Mountjoy's 4th Regiment of the Mounted Kentucky Volunteers. He moved to Mercer Co., Kentucky a little prior to 1812 and purchased land in 1813 (Notes from Paul E. Hitch, 2/2/1995).
