Ethel Layton Hitch, 78

SALISBURY, Md. - Ethel Layton Hitch, of Salisbury, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was 78. Mrs. Hitch was born in Seaford, Del., daughter of the late Lewis and Bessie Jefferson Passwaters. She retired from Nationwide District office in Salisbury. Mrs. Hitch was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Fruitland. She was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Salisbury and Fort Myers, Fla., and the Fort Myers Congregational Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers. She is survived by her husband, R. Russell Hitch, of Salisbury; a daughter and her husband, Gail L. and John T. Yeager, of Salisbury; a grandson and his wife, David L. and Ruth Ann Short, of Salisbury; and a brother, Lewis Passwaters, of Atlantic City, N.J. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Ike Ledger and Rev. T. Harvey Dixon will officiate.
