bullet  Notes:

On Aug 9 1671, the following appears in the Somerset Co., MD Judicial records: William Herne of Mattapony, Somerset County, caused his banns of matrimony with Katherine Maltis, widow, to be set up at the courthouse. The court being informed that Katherine "goes under the notion of John Pikes' wife, of Mattapony," orders same taken down and orders said Herne to be taken into custody until he give security for his good behavior. (SoJ-DT7:193)

Then, we see Hearn married from "William Herne and Katherin Maltis were maryed by Mr. Robert Maddock Clarke ye 31th day of December Ao Dom one thousand six hundred seaventy and two" (SoLR-IKL:106)

On May 29 1683, William Hearne had the land tract "Yarmouth" surveyed for him for 200a. He and wife Katherine sold this land to George Russell on Mar 19 1687/8 for 6500 pounds of tobacco. (SoLR-BWZ:56) In modern day (2018), this tract borders US Route 113 half way between Snow Hill and Pocomoke, MD along Mattapony Creek. Two weeks later, on Apr 4 1688, Hearne purchased the 200a tract "Old Berry" (also "Oldbury") from Thomas Oxford and his wife, Hannah, for 3000 pounds of tobacco. (Ibid:76) Hearne and wife Katherine sold this tract in 1692 back to Thomas Oxford. (Ibid-L1:69) The "Old Berry" tract is just SE of "Yarmouth."
