(1) Feb 9 1664: "Make Peace" for 150a in Annemessex at small gut (2) Jul 24 1679: "Exchange" for 200a on S side of Annemessex R. in Annemessex Neck (3) Mar 19 1681: "Cabin Swamp" for 150a between Annemessex River and Pocomoke Bay (4) Mar 19 1681: "Bald Ridge" for 200a on S side of Annemessex River back in woods therefrom, on S-most side of a great savannah (5) May 29 1689: "Roaches Privilege" for 57a between Pocomoke Bay and Little Annemessex River near Watkins Point
These five patents encompass a total of 757a and, with the exception of "Bald Ridge" and "Roaches Privilege", are located in a group adjacent to each and encompass the eastern side of the modern day town of Crisfield, MD. "Bald Ridge" is located NE of the group up on MD Route 413 just east of Marion Station, MD. "Roaches Privilege" is in the opposite direction and due south from the main group of tracts and is primarily swamp/marshland down near the end of Apes Hole Road.It was undoubtedly used as pastureland for his livestock.
The main block of tracts, "Make Peace", "Exchange" and "Cabin Swamp" make up the heart of John Roach's plantation and he resided on the "Make Peace" tract somewhere not far from where modern-day Mariner's, Old Slate and Cash Corner Roads intersect (2017)
John Roach Sr. wrote his will on Feb 8 1709 (new style) and it was proven in Somerset Co., MD on Mar 17 1718 with the following provisions: - To "Best" son John Roach (as Roch), after the decease of my wife Sarah, 150a of tract "Make Peace" being the plantation whereon I now live plus 50a of "Exchange" that adjoins the former - To son Nathaniel Roach, 200a, tract called "Bald Ridge" - To son Michael Roach, 150a, the remainder of "Exchange" - To son Samuel Roach, 150a tract called "Cabin Swamp" - To four sons, all my marshlands to use as needed - Wife Sarah be executrix and to seven daughters, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth, Abigail, Arabella, Rebecca and Hannah and my wife to divide my personal estate Witnesses: J. West, John West Jr., Stephen Horsey, Thomas West (SoW-EB9:066).
John married Sarah Williams, daughter of Michael Williams and Sarah Clarkson, on 04 Feb 1664 in Somerset Co., MD. (Sarah Williams was born about 1640 and died after 1718 in Somerset Co., MD.)
