Painter Dallas West
Rev. Painter Dallas West was one of the greatest evangelistic spirits of Somerset County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He was the founder of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) on the Eastern Shore in his youth, including Perryhawkin, Olivet and Fruitland, for half a century faithfully serving different pulpits. The community of West Post Office was named after him as he had a store there and the first post office was created in his store. The road heading east from Princess Anne on the "Beach to Bay Indian Trail" is named West Post Office Road. Painter married Nancy E. (?). (Nancy E. (?) was born in 1851 in MD, died in 1935 in Somerset Co., MD and was buried in 1935 in Perryhawkin Cemetery, Somerset Co., MD.) |
