FRUITLAND -- Katherine B. Hobbs, 96, of Fruitland died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.

Katherine was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Perryhawkin, Md., to John Byrd Butler and Bessie West Butler Lewis. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department and was inducted into the Fireman's Historical Foundation of Delmarva Inc. in 1993. She was a member of the Fruitland Christian Church since the age of 12. She worked for 41 years at the Fruitland Shirt Factory. She was an avid Yankees fan.

She is survived by her son, James B. Hobbs and his wife, Lois, of Fruitland; grandsons, Richard Hobbs and his wife, Carol, of Fruitland and James Hands and his wife, Patti, of Princess Anne; three great-granddaughters, Carrie and Elizabeth Hobbs of Fruitland and Jenna Hands of Princess Anne; special friends, Elsie Tubbs of Princess Anne and Scott Latham and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer J. Hobbs and five sisters, Ina Ferris, Alice Hammond, Elizabeth Thomas, Lennie Price and Etta Bloxom.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holloway Funeral Home. Family and friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the service. The Rev. David Bennett and The Rev. Shawn Short will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. Memorial contributions can be made to Fruitland Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 70, Fruitland, Md. 21826 or Fruitland Christian Church, 605 St. Lukes Road, Fruitland, Md. 21826. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home PA, 501 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury.

Katherine married Wilmer James Hobbs, son of Leland Ray Hobbs and Carrie V. Jones, about 1936 in Wicomico Co., MD.
