BEDFORD DAILY DEMOCRAT BEDFORD, INDIANA THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 1895
IN MEMORIAM.
Died, on April 6th, 1895, at her home in Bedford, Mrs. Sarah J. Denson.
Mrs. Denson (Sarah J.) was born in Lawrence county, on April 8th, 1822, and was the oldest daughter of the late Joseph Rawlins, a pioneer of the county. Her opportunities were such as was were then afforded and she made good use of them. In 1840, she became the wife of the late Dr. Isaac Denson, and through his long and extensive practice, she was his devoted and faithful companion and helpmate. Coming home early or late from his visits to the homes of the sick, he always found his wants anticipated by willing hands.
To them were born eleven children, three of whom preceded her to the grave. The others were all permitted to be present during her last illness, and lovingly and tenderly ministered to her every want.
Apparently feeling that her separation from them was near at hand, she was anxious that they should be constantly near her, and to the last, when aroused to consciousness, she would inquire for any absent one, and ask that "the children" be all present. In early life she joined the M. E. church, and was continuously a consistent member of that church.
One by one the names above hers on the Roll, were stricken off, until hers was near the first. She was of a returning disposition, and her life and works were more effective for good, and are most treasured by friends than any profession which she made. Always ready to help the poor, to minister to those in distress, to lift up the fallen and to visit those who were in need of a helping hand, she will be most missed by those who need her help. Her life was the life of the faithful, and her death was as the death of the righteous. The funeral services were conducted at the late residence by her pastor, the Rev. John Ward, assisted by Dr. S. A. Rariden, who has been a life long friend of the family.
Followed by many friends, her remains were taken to Green Hill cemetery, where they were laid at rest beside those of her husband and the children who had preceded her. Her memory will be held in highest esteem by those who knew her best.
Sarah married Dr. Isaac Denston on 24 Mar 1840 in IN. (Dr. Isaac Denston was born on 08 Aug 1804 in Somerset Co., MD, died on 18 Sep 1888 in Bedford, Lawrence Co., IN and was buried about 21 Sep 1888 in Green Hill Cemetery, Bedford, Lawrence Co., IN.)
