Milton was born July 22, 1952, in Salisbury, a son of Sadie Wilson Shiles of Mardela Springs and the late Harold Stanley Shiles, who passed in 2007. Milton, affectionately known as "Puppy Dog," spent his whole life in Mardela Springs, a place he loved. He graduated from Mardela High School with the class of 1971. He was a lifetime member of Snethen United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs. For 37 years Milton worked as a panel operator at E.I. DuPont Co. in Seaford, before the closing of the plant. For the last few years, he enjoyed his work as a deliveryman for Edible Arrangements in Salisbury.
His passion for baseball and softball began at a very young age playing Little League and from there to a position on the Mardela High baseball team, followed by many years playing softball in the modified leagues. He earned multiple National 1st Team All-American awards and in 1989 was a member of the ASA National Championship team. One of Milton's proudest accomplishments was his induction into the Maryland Softball Hall of Fame in 2009. In addition to playing, he umpired softball at the high school level for many years throughout Maryland and Delaware and coached various teams. Milton cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he absolutely adored.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Michele Jones and her husband, John, of Delmar; two sons, Kory Shiles and his wife, April, of Mardela Springs and Dustin Shiles and his wife, Kelly, of Sharptown; three grandchildren, Alexa and Bryce Jones and Kayden Shiles; two sisters, Carolyn Groton and her husband, John, of Pace, Fla., and Jeannie Lloyd of Delmar; his companion of seven years, Robin Washburn and her grandson, Lukas, of Mardela Springs; and three nephews, Richard Lloyd, Chris Lloyd and Ronnie Groton.
