The family connections of the Brown children are proved in the census records of 1850 and 1860 EXCEPT for that of Emily Brown. She is suggested as a sister in a letter from Caroline L. Brown and Emily (Brown?) to Y.H.E. Hitch dated May 30, 1858 from Marshall County, Alabama, where Emily writes to "brother" Young Hitch along with Caroline L. Brown. In the 1840 Census for Laurens Co., SC, "Capt. William Brown" maintains a household that accounts for himself, his wife and all the children born by 1840 except there is an unaccounted for female age 5-10 - this might be Emily who would have probably been born about 1829/31.
