Nancy (Nannie) J. Pevler was of Steam Corner, Fountain Inn, IN. She was born in Carlton, KY, a small place near Lexington. She was married at Fountain County, IN.
Located on a part of the homestead purchased by John W. Smith in 1873
which he named Memento. His daughter, Alena Beatrice, who died April
15, 1877 was the first buried in the cemetery. Locally referred to
as "Boot Hill", this historic cemetery has been the victim of vandalism
and neglect. The local Zangi Grotto has adopted Pinewood and have
installed gates that are locked each night to help protect the graveyard.
Many of the tombstones have been damaged or have graffiti sprayed on them.
I have been using an old listing made in 1958 by the D.A.R. to fill in the
stones that are now unreadable.
The cemetery is located at the corner of Main Street and Peninsula Drive
in the city of Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida.
Nancy married Oliver Allen Hitch, son of Zachariah (Zack) Hitch and Mary Adeline Spain, on 24 Aug 1883 in Fountain Co., IN.1 2 (Oliver Allen Hitch was born on 13 Apr 1857 in Princeton, Gibson Co., IN,1 5 6 7 8 9 died on 22 Feb 1911 in Daytona Beach, Volusia Co., FL 1 10 and was buried about 25 Feb 1911 in Pinewood Cemetery, Daytona Beach, Volusia County, FL.)
