Ruth Alice Willits
Ruth was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Bangor, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Earl and Louisa (Upton) Willits. She was raised on a farm and educated in the rural Bangor area. After graduating from Union High School, she continued her education at Iowa State University and graduated in Home Economics in 1937. She was a home demonstration agent in northern Iowa following graduation. On June 26, 1941, Ruth was united in marriage to George H. Hitch, who died in 2004. Following their marriage they were partners in farming in the Liscomb-Whitten area. Ruth was active in 4-H judging and other community activities. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed many other home-making activities for her family. Later she taught at the Union-Whitten High School and Beaman-Conrad-Liscomb High School. Ruth was a member of Liscomb Federated Women's Club, Order of Eastern Star for over 60 years, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Bangor-Liberty Friends Church. She looked forward to attending the Red Hat Society activities in her later years. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband George, her daughter, Linda, and a sister, Gertrude Hall. Ruth married George H. Hitch, son of Herbert H. Hitch and Alice Biersborn, on 26 Jun 1941. (George H. Hitch was born on 11 Jul 1909 in Hardin Co., IA,1 died on 24 May 2004 in IA and was buried about 27 May 2004 in Liscomb Cemetery, Marshall Co., IA.) |
