Mary Margaret Smith Hitch, 95, of Indian Head, MD died Dec. 1, 2014, at home. Born Nov. 22, 1919, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Earl Randolf Smith and the late Rose Elizabeth Smith. Mrs. Hitch spent 20+ years as leader for Potomac Heights Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included sewing, crafts and line dancing. She enjoyed the Redskins football games, reading and visiting with family, especially grand- and great-grandchildren. Special family functions included the annual family reunions. Her enjoyment in life was her children, babies, family and church. She was proud of her family. She was a church going person and a loving person. We are very thankful for the wonderful care Linda and Moreno Valdez have given mom for the past year and for Helen and Mannie for the past two weeks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Elton Hitch, Sr.; son, Gerald A. Hitch; and son-in-law, Paul E. Coburn. She was the oldest of 10 children. She is survived by her three sisters, Rose Marinari, Deloris Darragh and Frances Leukhardt; one brother, Richard L. Smith; daughters, Sharon J. Conley and Rae A. Coburn; son, William E. Hitch, Jr.; daughters-in-law, LouAnn Hitch and Wanda Hitch; son-in-law, James E. Conley; grandchildren, Ann Reed, Richard Bladen, Paul Conley, Sally Gaugahn, Troy Coburn, Jill Kline, Jessie Hitch, Erick Hitch, Gerald A. Hitch and Heather Bryan; and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at Williams Funeral Home, Indian Head, MD. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 at St. Mary Star of the Sea, Indian Head, MD. Burial will take place at St. Charles Cemetery, Indian Head, MD. Repast will be held at St. Mary's Church Hall, across from St. Mary Star of Sea Church, Mattingly Ave., Indian Head, MD. Pallbearers will be Troy Coburn, Eric Hitch, Jessie Hitch, Bryan Davis, Nick Reed and Gerald Hitch.
