Prominent Farmer Dead
Jacob A. Collins, one of the most substantial and best-known farmers of this community, died at his home near town Thursday morning, aged 75 years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Funeral services will be held to-morrow morning at Mt. Pleas- ant M. E. Church and interment made in the adjoining cemetery, Rev. J. M. Mitchell officiating.
Mr. Collins was a faithful life- long Democrat but never held po- litical office. For more than fifty years he had voted the straight Democratic ticket. He was also a devout, consistent Methodist and the oldest member of Mt. Pleasant Church. A widow and five chil dren-Mrs. George W. Walson, Dr. Clarence Collins, of Crisfield, Md., Elmer and Hobbs Collins of Newport News, Va., and Roland Collins survive him.
Jacob married Julia Jane Hitch, daughter of Rev. Elijah Hitch and Leah Ann Armstrong, on 28 Dec 1860 in Sussex Co., DE.1 2 (Julia Jane Hitch was born on 11 Aug 1839 in Laurel, Sussex Co., DE,1 4 5 died on 18 Jul 1877 in Sussex Co., DE 3 and was buried about 21 Jul 1877 in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Laurel, Sussex Co., DE.)
Jacob next married Palestine A. Cooper, daughter of William P. Cooper and Mary A. (?), on 10 Aug 1882 in Sussex Co., DE. (Palestine A. Cooper was born on 31 Oct 1862 in Sussex Co., DE, died on 27 Apr 1883 in Sussex Co., DE and was buried about 30 Apr 1883 in Portsville, Sussex Co., DE.)
