Jane T. TAYLOR

She's listed as sister-in-law to John S. Ingersoll in the 1900 Trappe, Wicomico Co. census (her sister is Amelia H. Ingersoll). However, she's listed as single, not married. And, with further investigation, she had been living in the Ingersoll household since 1870 with her children in 1880.

It appears that John Sydney Ingersoll has married Jane Taylor's sister in c1871 and had children with that family but also fathered children with Jane T. Taylor in the same household! A very unconventional relationship and probably looked down upon back in 1880s Wicomico Co. But ALL CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE points to this being the case. When Jane Taylor's son, Fred T. Taylor died, his death certificate lists as his father "Ingersoll Taylor" - this compiler finds no evidence of such a person ever existing and thinks that Ingersoll Taylor was really John Sydney Ingersoll! The surname Ingersoll and Taylor get used interchangeable over the years for the children of Jane Taylor and she has three children in a starstep manner in the 1870s which is not typical for a single out of wedlock situation - it seems that John S. Ingersoll was fathering children with both of the sisters.

Jane married John Sydney INGERSOLL, son of William INGERSOLL and Harriett Elizabeth AYRES, about 1872. (John Sydney INGERSOLL was born on 15 Feb 1838 in Somerset Co., MD, died on 30 Mar 1923 in Somerset Co., MD and was buried about 02 Apr 1923 in Siloam Methodist Church, Siloam, Wicomico Co., MD.)
