31 Jul 1668 Accomack County, VA In his will William Gowers gave to Francis Ayres, son of John Ayres, 300 acres. To John Arew 300 acres, being the plantation where I now live in exchange for 300 acres belonging to the said John Arew lying in Hunting Creek & adjcent the land where John Ayres now lives: which said 300 acres, exchanged or not, I give to John Ayres, son of John Ayres. To Patience Ayres, daughter of John Ayres. To John Drummond & to his sons Richard & John Drummond. To Isaac Dix. To George Middleton & William Willet. To Dorothy Conder. To Mary Hewett, daughter of Robert Hewett. Capt. Richard Hill residual legatee. Witt: Rich: Hill, John Drummond. According to Ayres, Dawson & Allied Families the Gowers records of Lancaster and Rappahannock Counties is, that the reason William Gowers bequeathed the principal part of his estate in 1668 to the children of John Ayres, the Master Mariner, was that John's first wife Joan, was a sister of William Gowers, and born in England.
In 1667 William White patented Whitelaw tract A101 of 400 acres and two years later, he and his wife Mary assigned to Arthur Robins, who reassigned to Teague Anderson. In 1671 he and his wife Nelle sold jointly to William Willett and George Middleton, and nine years later the latter and his wife Bridget assigned his interest to his partner.
In 1664 John Cary patented tract A100 of 400 acres. In 1678 he sold 2 acres jointly to William Willett and George Middleton, which was for a mill site and the former soon acquired his partner's interest. The middleton's sold this tract in 1680.
In 1673 Finlaw Mackwilliam patented tract A102 for 400 acres. In 1677 he and his wife Mary sold to William Willett and four years later (1681) he resold to George Middleton. In 1719 Middleton left only 1 shilling to his eldest son George, who may have been otherwise taken care of in some other way; to his daughter Bridgett Middleton he left 100 acres at the east end "on which I now dwell"; and to another son named George, and called George "Mynor", he left the residue of the land. 25 Mar 1687 Accomack County, VA - Finla MackWillian left George Middleton 12 pence as a portion for his dec'd wife.
The preceeding tracts are all located just south of modern-day Parksley, VA.
In 1699, John & Abigall Ayres sold 188 acres of this tract A98 to George Middleton between Parksley & Accomac, VA. They, in turn deeded it to his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Joseph Melson, but with the proviso that their eldest son was to inherit half of it. In 1747, although his father was still living, Middleton Melson sold 100 acres to Joseph Middleton Melson, son of Joseph, who thus would have been his brother. The deed stated that it was the land left to him by his grandfather George Middleton. In 1749 Joseph M. & Elizabeth Melson sold 50 acres to Henry Milliner, and the next year a balance of 44 acres.
George middleton wrote his will 22 Feb 1715/16 and it was proven on 7 Apr 1719 in Accomack County, VA He gave to Bridget Middleton 100 acres being the Eastern part of the Plantation where I live. To younger son George Middleton, minor, the remaining part of my plantation To eldest son George Middleton Jr. 1 s. Youngest son, George, minor, Exr. Witt: Elizabeth Bradhurst. Catherine Willet
