Joseph Hankinson Sr.
Joseph Hankinson was the grandson of one of the earliest settlers of Monmouth County, New Jersey. Thomas Hankinson, Sr., his grandfather, settled in Matawan, Monmouth County, NJ in 1684 0r 1685. He aquired 200 acres and sold the original tract in 1724. The original Thomas Hankinson, Sr. tract was at the head of Gravel Brook, the feeder of Lake Matawan. Rachel Mattison Hankinson married Joseph Hankinson on February 15, 1732 in Freehold, Monmouth County, NJ. Their children: Aaron, Thomas (1733-1784) married Jamina Stout, William married (1) Mary Evilman (2) Susanna DeWitt, John, Anne married Mr. Van Buskirk and Elizabeth (1748-1817) married John Reading. Joseph married Rachel Mattison. (Rachel Mattison was born on 02 Nov 1707 in Monmouth Co., NJ, died on 28 Mar 1784 in Hunterdon Co., NJ and was buried about 31 Mar 1784 in Hankinson Cemetery, Readington, Hunterdon Co., NJ.) |
