Franklin Roger Jones, 100, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025 at his home surrounded by family and is now home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born in Powellville, Maryland on June 12, 1924 to Roger Franklin Jones and Delima Rayne Jones. He was the eldest of 5 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 77 years, Mary Emily Pennewell Jones, and 3 siblings: Hilda Jones, Helen Holloway and Clifford Jones. The youngest sibling, Mildred Miller, resides in Powellville, MD.
Franklin started his farming career as a young boy plowing and cultivating the fields. He loved being a farmer. He was a poultry farmer and grew various truck crops and grains. He loved Powellville, serving his community and helping others. He was a charter member of the Powellville Volunteer Fire Company, a member of Powellville United Methodist Church, Powellville Ruritan, Delmarva Poultry Industry, and a director of both the Wicomico Farm Bureau and Southern States. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. In addition, he was a Wicomico County School Bus Contractor for over 32 years.
Franklin is survived by his 3 children: Sara Jones, Joyce Bacon (Steve), and Alice Kay Prouse (Howard); his six grandchildren: Detra "Dee Dee" Kelly (Bobby), Greg Prouse (Kristin), Amy Dummer (Fred), Scott Fisher (Kirsten), Pam Dobrenen (Michael), and Laura Owens (Jamie). He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren: Meghan, Calvin, Olivia, Briley, Mason, Eli, Braden, Jacob, Elaina, Avery, Addison, Luke, Arden, Katie, and Grayson; and 4 great-great grandchildren; Asher, Harper, Leo, and Kacey. In addition, to his grandchildren, he is survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Franklin was a joyful, caring and genuine person who touched so many lives in his 100+ years. He was a devout Christian who loved his years teaching Sunday school and enjoyed fellowshipping with his church family. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and extended family, trips to Ocean City, clamming in Assateague and traveling. He enjoyed attending the monthly Ruritan chicken BBQs. One of his special memories was being invited as a special VIP guest to Cape Canaveral for the launch of Atlantis Space Shuttle Mission with his nephew, Dr. Jacob Jones. Along with his wife, Emily, he enjoyed traveling around the world with fellow farmers through the Wicomico County Extension Office. Franklin had many friends and always looked forward to their visits and long talks. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him. The family sends a warm thank you for everyone's thoughts, prayers and support. A special thanks to his buddies, David Brumbley and Jim Phippin, a special thanks to his two nephews, Dr. Jacob Jones and Dwayne Jones, and a special thanks to all his nurses, aids, and caregivers.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury, MD, on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Franklin will be laid to rest at Friendship Cemetery, 6518 Friendship Rd., Pittsville, MD.
