He is first listed on a Tithable listin 1669 in Accomack County, Virginia

He purchased land in 1677 in Accomack County, Virginia when John and Matilda West sold 200 acres of tract A109 (See Whitelaw, 1968), which is south of Guilford and west of Parksley, to Peter Clavell, on the south side of old Timber Creek and bounded on the west by the present middle bayside road. This was the land Peter Clovell, wife Elizabeth, left to his sons Peter, Selbe & Thomas in 1693. Thomas may have died before 1708 as, in that year, Peter & Lucretia Clavell and Selby Clavell united in a deed to William Darter.

He purchased more land in 1688 in Accomack County when it states that Peter Clavell bourght 50 acres of tract A109 on the north side of Timber Creek from William & Dorothy Jarman.

He wrote his will on 6 Aug 1692 as:
- To wife Elizabeth plantation where I now live, being 200 acres for life then to 3 sons Peter, Selbe & Thomas Clovell
- To daughter Comfort.
- To 3 sons marsh purchased of William Jarman, but the rest of my children to have provision for their stock.
Wife o be Executrix.
Witnesses: John Drummond, John Abbot, John Parker, Henry Young.
It was probated 21 Feb 1692/93 in Accomack County

Peter married Elizabeth Selby, daughter of Thomas Selby and Mary (?). (Elizabeth Selby was born about 1657 in Accomack Co., VA and died before 28 Oct 1701 in Accomack Co., VA.)
