In 1683, David James bought 37 1/2 acres of tract N99 in Northampton (See Whitelaw, 1968) from Nicholas and Anne Granger and from John and Margaret Granger. Then in 1692 he bought another 37 1/2 acres each from Mary and Elizabeth Dolby. The 4 women were the daughters and cohiers of Edward Dolby and the 150 acres they sold were the balance owned by him at his death. When David James died in 1703 he left the home part to his wife Joan and then to his son William, 100 acres where Dolby had formerly lived to his son David, and the 50-acres balance to his son Robert.

His will was probated on Aug 28 1703 in Northampton with:
To my son David James 100 A. on the head of Nauswaudux Creek, it being that part of my land containing the plantation whereon Edward Dolby formerly lived (N99). To my loving wife Joan James during her life 100 A. adjoining my son David's part, it being the plantation I now live on, and then to my son William James (N99). To son Robert James 50 A. at the head of my land adjoining George Dewey (N99). To my dau. Sarah feather bed. To my son Fran hand mill, musquett and pewter dish. To my three daus. Elizabeth Juit, Mary Badger, and Ann Taylor one ewe apiece. To my son Thomas James bed and pewter dish. To son John James bed and gun. Remaining estate to my wife to bring up those of my children who are in their minority. Wife and son David extrs. Witt: Luke Laylor, John Eshom, Robert 'X' Briggs.
