A Thomas Mitchell is named in Bogerternoton 100 in the Somerset Tax Lists for 1731, 1735, 1740 with two unnamed slaves, the latter being the last year before Worcester peeled off as its own county. He is most probably Thomas Mitchell in Mattapany 100 in 1728 and 1729 as a dependent in the Samuel Hopkins household with others Josiah and John Hopkins (note that Samuel Hopkins witnessed his will in 1743). In 1727, he was in the same Samuel Hopkins household but with another Samuel with Josiah and John.
With a land transaction in 1730, he had to have been born 1709 or earlier. On Mar 18 1730 (NS) James Shirley [as Shirly], innholder, et ux. Ann Shirely sold to Thomas Mitchell, tailor, tract ST. MARTINS RIDGE. (SoLR-SH:242). On Mar 24 1743 (NS), part of the tract ROME was sold by Samuel Pope (son of John Pope), planter to Thomas Mitchell, tailor, on S side of Popes Branch. (WoLR-A:062)
Thomas Mitchell wrote his will Apr 9 1743 and it was proven in Worcester Co. on Aug 12 1743: - To wife and children, land on where I live St. Martin Ridge 200a - To son John, 200a plantation recently bought of Samuel Pope laying in and about ye said plantation. Also negro boy Belfast - To son Thomas remainder of said land to be layed out by Mr. Isaac Morris, also negro boy Jacob - To wife Tabitha, negroes Abenner and Rose - To daughter Janet Mitchell, negro girl Gibbo - To daughter Mary Mitchell, negro boy Abner - To daughter Hannah Mitchell, negro girl Phillis Executor: Isaac Morris Witnesses: Adam Bell, Samuel Hopkins, Rosannah Williams (WoW-JW2:005)
