John W. Hales, 83, of 507 E. Isabella St., died today in the Salisbury Nursing Home after a long illness. He was a retired employee of the E. S. Adkins Co. here, where he had worked for about 18 years. Born in Worcester County, he was a son of the late William T. and Lucinda Townsend Hales. His wife, Mrs. Meryle Hales, died in 1970. Surviving are three children, all of Salisbury, Edward W. and Reece G. Hales and Mrs. Ruth Mills; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a sister and a brother, Mrs. Lucinda Shockley and Reuben Hales, both of Salisbury. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Holloway Funeral Home. The Rev. Vinton Shufelt of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery.
