WATTSVILLE '97 Willie Hastings Elliott, 96, of Wattsville died peacefully after a short illness Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born on Sept. 14, 1915, she was a daughter of the late William and Bessie Justice Hastings.
She was a lifelong member of Wattsville United Methodist Church. A graduate of the Wilmington School of Nursing in Wilmington, she retired from Peninsula Regional Medical Center in 1980 as a nursing supervisor with 30 years of service. She was an avid crocheter who also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Temperanceville Lodge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Elliott Sr.; a daughter, Mitzi Elliott; brother, Rhodes Hastings; and three sisters, Estelle Hurley, Elizabeth Lewis and Melissa Hastings.
She is survived by two sons, George Elliott and his wife, Judy, of Sign Post and Jerry Elliott and his wife, June, of Salisbury; seven grandchildren, Stephen Bowden and his wife, Kathy, Mitzi Fitchett and her husband, Jeff, Teresa Batchler, Beth Matthews and her husband, Scott, Brenda Rayfield and her husband, Jay, Kathy Elliott and Jerri Lynne Elliott; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Maury Enright will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wattsville United Methodist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Another visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today, with an Eastern Star service to be held at 7 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, 107 Vine St., Pocomoke City. Interment will follow in the church cemetery
