bullet  Notes:

Listed as a tinner in 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 in Salisbury Town. His obituary gives details of his life:

THE DEAD ONES. Sudden Demise of Respected Citizens of Salisbury One Died Christmas Day. JOSHUA W. MCBRIETY - Mr. Joshua W. McBriety died about 1 o'clock in the afternoon of Christmas day. He was at the home of Mrs. Maddox, at Williams Point on the Wicomico River, had just eaten a hearty dinner. He expired a few minutes after being attacked, His remains were interred beside those of his wife, who died in 1897, in the family burial ground at Williams Point, Tuesday afternoon. His only surviving child is Geo. W. McBriety, who is employed by the Dorman A. Smyth Hardware Company. Mr. McBriety was past eighty years of age. He was a native of Baltimore, but came to Salisbury while young and when Salisbury was a village. He was an active and industrious man and acquired property. He was at one time engaged as a tinner and had something of the inventive genius in his make up. He spent hours of toil and hundreds of dollars experimenting with the perpetual motion problem. He was the successor to the first photographer who ever set up business in Salisbury. When the great fire of 1886 swept the town, visiting its destroying wrath upon the insured and uninsured alike, it caught Mr. Mc. without insurance. His comfortable residence corner Division and Chestnut streets, and his business building down town were swept away, and only the vacant land remained. He sold the land and bought a property at Williams Point, where he resided until his death Christmas day. He leaves an estate of some thousands of dollars, which, it is understood will go to his daughter-in law and her children whe are: Mrs. Eloise Taylor, wife of Geo. W. Taylor, Mrs. Belle Blank of West Virginia: Purnell, Ernest and Mary McBriety, children of George W. McBriety. (Salisbury Advertiser, Dec 30 1899, page 1)
