ALEXANDER LONG HAS PASSED AWAY Well-known Somerset Citizen Dies On Sunday Served Many Years As Justice Of The Peace.
Member Of Prominent Somerset Family. Had Been In Failing Health For Sometime. Funeral At St. Pauls On Tuesday.
Alexander Long, an old and well-known citizen of Somerset County, died at his homestead, the Cedar Grove Farm, near Marion, on Sunday last. He had been confined to his bed for the past three months, and gradually weakening, passed away with his family at his bedside. Mr. Long was the son of the late Edward Long of Princess Anne, who was a prominent member of the Somerset County Bar and a member of Congress. Born at Princess Anne in 1850, Mr. Long came to Marion in 1866 and later married Miss Georgianna Price of White Haven. For many years Mr. Long was a Justice of the Peace, and was always an active Democrat. His wife who is suffering from a severe attack of Rheumatism, was unable to attend the funeral services. Besides his wife Mr. Long is survived by several children, and one brother, Mr. Charles W. Long of Princess Anne.
The funeral services were held from St. Paul church on Tuesday. Mrs. Chaffey presided at the organ, suitable music being rendered and the hymns "Rock of Ages," "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Lead Kindly Light" being sung by the large congregation present. The rector, Rev. F. H. King, officiating and interment was in the church yard adjoining. The pall-bearers were Col. Henry J. Waters, Alen Davis, J. C. Horsey, Samuel Barnes, Francis Miles and H. P. Alexander married Georgeanna Price, daughter of Capt. George Price and Sarah Rebecca Fletcher, in 1874 in Somerset Co., MD.
