Thomas Smith deeded land in 1727 at tract N108, north side Nassawadox Creek, Northampton Co, VA. Thomas Smith gave this land to a grandson Leaven Smith. According to the wording of the deed, Thomas himself was then living on N107, which h e left to son William three years later (1730). Leaven Smith left no will, but it is known that he had a wife Margaret. Title to the land after him is vague, but the following seems to offer a possible solution. In a later will (1765) the will of William Major Sr., he mentioned a grandson Levin Major, and it seems likely that William Major Jr. had married either the childless widow, or an only daughter-and-heir of Levin Smith, to account for his having a son Levin. In 1782 the will of William Major (presumably the above William Jr.) did not mention a son Levin, but he may have died after the granfather. He did not mention a wife(sic) (he did mention a wife, but not by name), so she may have died previously, but he did leave to a son John Major 338 acres which had been his wife's dower land (which supports the above assumption), together with 60 acres he had bought from Thomas Smith (N107). In 1798 John Major left to an unborn child, or if it did not live, to his wife Nancy (daughter of Obedience Johnson); apparently that came about and Nancy married a John Pitts. In 1807 John and Anne Pitts deed to their son John R. Pitts to take effect upon their deaths, but he if died without issue and the title was to revert to Anne or her heirs. He survived his mother but died in 1815 without issue. In 1821 a survey showed 307 acres: a central strip (including the home) from the neck road down to the creek went to John P. Johnson, a brother of Anne, and the rest went to her half-brothers Peason Savage, who received the north strip, and William K. Savage, who received the south strip
